Nneka Anyikwa is a self-taught visual artist whose bold, evocative work explores identity, memory, and liberation through the lens of Black queer womanhood. Born and raised in the Bronx and of Nigerian descent, Nneka channels the richness of her heritage and the pulse of her city into each piece she creates. Her art is deeply personal—each painting a layered story of self-discovery, resistance, and radical joy.
Primarily working in oil, Nneka’s style is rich in texture, emotion, and symbolism. Her work serves as both mirror and megaphone—unveiling hidden parts of herself while amplifying the voices and experiences of those too often left unseen. As a queer artist, Nneka is deeply invested in creating space for complexity, softness, and truth in all its forms.
Her debut solo exhibition, Unveiled, is a celebration of becoming, an homage to intersectionality, and a powerful act of visibility. Nneka lives and works in New York City, creating under the moniker Not Nneka—a name that once shielded her, and now sets her free.
